  • About the Concert:

Kicking off Centenary Stage Company’s annual January Jazz Fest is the internationally renowned Igor Butman and his Moscow Jazz Orchestra, featuring Allan Harris on Saturday, January 11th at 8 p.m.

  • About Igor Butman:

Igor Butman, now Russia’s top jazz personality, is not only the artistic director of the country’s best jazz club, he also leads the hottest jazz orchestra in Russia. The band has evolved into Russia’s best touring hardcore jazz unit. Butman`s marvelous coalescence of soul, sound and technique drew praise from President Bill Clinton. Clinton stated, that Igor Butman “may be the greatest living jazz saxophone player, who happens to be a Russian.” The Wall Street Journal calls saxophonist Igor Butman “one of the best ‘traditional’ American-style big-band leaders, although he happens to be Russian.”

“This is, without a doubt, one of the most electrifying big bands I have ever seen,” says Centenary Stage general manager Catherine Rust, who with Producing Director Carl Wallnau, discovered Butman and the orchestra at last year’s APAP presenter’s conference in New York City. “We are incredibly fortunate to catch him while he is in the country, and to bring him to our New Jersey audiences!”

  • About Allan Harris:

Joining Butman’s leading world-class vocalist Fantine, is guest vocalist Allan Harris. Harris is a world-class singer, guitarist and songwriter who Tony Bennet calls “my favorite singer.” Perhaps best known for his interpretations of jazz standards, Allan’s smooth vocals and guitar-styling easily cross genres, from jazz to rock to blues. A three-time winner of the New York Nightlife Award for "Outstanding Jazz Vocalist,” Allan is regularly featured at the world’s great music festivals.
