Add to this the Argentinian music of Astor Piazzolla and the fascinating voice of Carlos Gardel – and the celebration becomes like no other!

  • About FROM GARDEL TO PIAZZOLLA Concert:

The illegitimate son of a French laundress in turn-of-the-century Buenos Aires, Carlos Gardel would ultimately rise to fame as one of the greatest tango singers of all time. Now the legendary tango star gets a rousing musical tribute by popular musical duo Yael & Gabriel at Club Bonafide in NYC. Yael Dray-Barel is a French-Israeli singer-songwriter influenced by rock and gypsy jazz, and her songs often incorporate the five languages she speaks. Argentinian guitarist Gabriel Hermida infuses his compositions with the essence of classical tango, flamenco and contemporary jazz. At this special concert, the pair will pay tribute to the bossa nova legend and put a spotlight on Hermida’s countryman Astor Piazzolla, who is credited with adding a touch of jazz and classical to tango, forging a new style called nuevo tango.

  • About the Performers:

Yael & Gabriel are a duet from New York. Gabriel Hermida is an Argentinian guitar player and composer, while Yael Dray-Barel is a French/Israeli singer songwriter. They have been working together on an original songs project. Their first album “Mar del Plata” was released in August 2013. Gabriel’s compositions are mostly instrumentals, with the essence of classical tango, contemporary music and jazz. Others are Flamenco songs with lyrics that tell personal stories. Yael’s repertoire represents progressive music influenced by Israeli Rock, Gypsy Jazz and French music. Each song is telling a different story relating the life of a young woman living in New York. The lyrics are in French, English, Hebrew, Spanish or Portuguese.
