  •  About the Program:

The Sketchy Orkestra is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Misha Piatigorsky. The show is a thrilling tête-à-tête between his trio and his signature string ensemble – six violins, two violas, and two cellos. In this unconventional approach, Piatigorsky is fusing orchestral writing and provocative urban beats to create a unique soundscape for his magnetic compositions, taking the audience on a roller coaster ride that takes their breath away. For the LPR performance, the group is augmented by trumpeter Jonathan Powell, saxophonist Joel Frahm, vocalists Emily Braden and Rahj Mason, with special guest appearance by looper Anthony Flammia and rapper Chazmere.

List of performers: Misha Piatigorsky (piano), Danton Boller (bass), Kenny Grohowski (drums), Frederika Krier (violin), Ezinma (violin), Gokce Erem (violin), Earl Maneein (violin), Nathalie Barret-Mas (violin), Alan Grubner (violin), Celia Hatton (viola), Yumi Oshima (viola), Agnes Nagy (cello), Eric Cooper (cello), Jonathan Powell (trumpet), Joel Frahm (saxophone), Emily Braden (voice), Rahj Mason (voice), Anthony Flammia (voice), Chazmere (voice).

  • About Misha Piatigorsky:

Winner of 2004 Thelonious Monk Composers Competition, Piatigorsky is an innovator rooted in the jazz world. He is known for the writing imbued with infectious themes that captivate audiences through harmonic complexity, fragile melodies and grand anthems. Undoubtedly Romantic — naturally influenced by Russians who witnessed the dawn of 20th century, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev in particular — his writing tells an epic story full of emotion and humor. And just like any great story, it keeps the audience at the edge of their seats.
