  • About the Deal:

$20 for LITVAKUS Klezmer Concert ($25 Value)

- Saturday, November 21, 2015, 6 PM

- Community Church Little Neck

- General Admission Tickets

  • About the Show:

Queens debut of the critically acclaimed klezmer group “Litvakus” and its founder Dmitry Zisl Slepovitch will present a program of a previously unknown style and repertoire of the Jewish klezmer musical tradition on Saturday, November 21 at  6 PM at  Community Church Little Neck, 46-16 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck.

The concert will include excerpts from the LITVAKUS’ debut album and their program, Raysn: The Music of Jewish Belarus (2014). The album tells a powerful story about a place where Jews and the Belarusians coexisted for more than seven centuries, creating the unique Belarusian culture, separately and together.

  • About LITVAKUS Band:

LITVAKUS called by some critics an “acoustic Gogol Bordello” is a unique klezmer collective led by the internationally renowned clarinetist, vocalist, composer, and educator Dmitri Zisl Slepovitch, a native of Belarus, and the first to focus exclusively on the music and culture of Belarus. The Litvakus repertoire presents a unique mix of traditional Belarusian and Litvak (North-East European Jewish) folk music, as well as contemporary pieces written in the spirit and style of roots (folk) music, most of it discovered or written by Zisl Slepovitch.

Litvakus first performed as the critically acclaimed stage band from the National Yiddish Theatre’s production of Gimpel Tam, in the fall of 2008, having continued performing together for several years under the name “Tamevate Kapelye.” The musicians’ theater and film backgrounds are bringing the band on the path of the modern ethnographic music theater, with the documentary footage, traditional and originally composed music becoming part of the storytelling (Traveling the Yiddishland multimedia concert program 2011).
