  • About HARLEQUINADE:

Les millions d’Arlequin (a.k.a. Harlequinade) is a ballet in two acts with libretto and choreography by Marius Petipa.

The ballet master Fyodor Lopukhov later restaged the ballet as Harlequinade in a one act version at the Ballet of the Maly Theatre of Leningrad.  The production premiered on 6 June 1933. Audiences outside of Russia are perhaps more familiar with George Balanchine’s revival, which he staged as Harlequinade with the New York City Ballet.

  • About CAVALRY HALT:

This ballet is a charming romantic comedy created by Maria Petipa for the Marinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1896, one of the choreographer’s works that has rarely if ever been performed in the U.S. It is a farcical romp set in a rustic Austrian village. The story revolves around two peasant women who are competing to win the heart of a peasant boy when the cavalry arrives and unexpectedly complicates matters.

Cavalry Halt is a demi-character ballet, and to meet its stylistic demands our dancers must rise to the technical challenge of bringing the characters to life by combining the dance with acting and mime.
