  • About the Event:

The celebration will sample the great composers’ beloved songs and solo piano repertoire, and feature performances by two noted artists: soprano Zhanna Alkhazova and pianist Abram Korsunsky. Rapidly gaining worldwide recognition as gifted talents, this Russian-born duo will present unique interpretations of Prokofiev and Shostakovich’s works that are deeply rooted in Russian tradition.

The festivities will be held on September 22nd at the Van Alen Mansion, 15 East 65th Street in Manhattan beginning at 6 PM, with the actual concert to follow at 6:45 PM. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

I.  Prokofiev: Five Poems of Anna Akhmatova, Op. 27. Zhanna Alkhazova and Abram Korsunsky.

II. Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No. 4 in C minor, Op. 29. Abram Korsunsky.

III. Shostakovich: Katerina’s Aria from Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. Zhanna Alkhazova and Abram Korsunsky.

IV. Shostakovich: Satires, Op. 109 words by Sasha Cherny. Zhanna Alkhazova and Abram Korsunsky.

  • About the Artists:

Zhanna Alkhazova

Soprano

Establishing her career with performances of some of the greatest roles in the lyric and dramatic repertoire, soprano Zhanna Alkhazova has already distinguished herself as “a veritable force of nature” in the minds of critics and audiences alike.   This season’s highlights include a critically acclaimed debut in the Title Role of Manon Lescaut, a role debut as Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlo, Lincoln Center recital debut and a recital tour of Russia. Ms. Alkhazova’s operatic credits include Title Role (Tosca), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Nedda (I Pagliacci), Micaela (Carmen), Title Role (Iolanta), Musetta (La Boheme) and others.  She has previously sung with Des Moines Metro Opera (Apprentice Artist), New Rochelle Opera, Opera New Jersey (Young Artist), Opera Boston, NY Opera Exchange, Commonwealth Lyric Opera, Regina Opera, Boston Lyric Opera among others. Internationally she has performed in Italy, Ireland, Canada, Russia and Spain.  Next season, Ms. Alkhazova is engaged to return to Regina Opera in the role of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Other upcoming engagements include a recital tour of Southern California and a European recital debut.

Abram Korsunsky

Piano

Abram Korsunsky is one of the most promising young pianists of his generation, performing as a solo and chamber musician across the United States and Europe. He has given recitals at the Kupferberg Center of the Arts, Flushing Town Hall, Carnegie-Weill Recital Hall, and has appeared with numerous orchestras, including the Queens College Symphony and Yonkers Philharmonic, among others. Abram completed his Master’s Degree in Music at the Aaron Copland School of Music in 2015, where he is currently an Assistant Professor, studying with renowned pianist and pedagogue Nina Lelchuk.
