  • About the Concert:

Featuring Anat Cohen, Arturo O’Farrill, Rafi Malkiel, and the Brooklyn College Jazz Ensemble! An evening of Afro-Latin big band arrangements of Jewish dance melodies and Yiddish songs, plus original compositions blending the sounds of Latin and Mid-Eastern music. The program will feature Grammy-winning Afro-Latin jazz pianist and band leader, Arturo O’Farrill, with two of New York’s most prominent Israeli-born jazz musicians, virtuoso clarinetist Anat Cohen and trombonist/composer Rafi Malkiel. Prior to the concert, multi-instrumentalist and composer Hankus Netsky, leader of the Jewish Music Ensemble at the New England Conservatory of Music, will present a talk on the intersection of Latin and Jewish jazz in New York and around the world.

  • About Anat Cohen:

Anat Cohen is an Israeli Jazz clarinetist and saxophonist. She performs regularly and has appeared at notable jazz festivals, such as the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, Tudo É Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival, to name a few. Anat has developed a notable work of research about Brazilian music, especially the Choro. Originally known for her saxophone accomplishments, she has recently focused on the clarinet, which is featured exclusively on her record “Clarinetwork”. Her latest record, “Claroscuro”, features Jason Lindner, Joe Martin and Daniel Freedman.
