VALERY GERGIEV: Concert Tickets at 30% Off! Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn Program!

- Sunday, October 27, 2019; 3 PM

- New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark

  • About the Concert:

Valery Gergiev returns to NJPAC to lead the mighty Munich Philharmonic in a pair of Russian masterworks, including Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with guest soloist Behzod Abduraimov.

Following his recent success with the Mariinsky Orchestra at NJPAC, Gergiev is back as Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic, an ensemble that has evolved into a powerhouse under such famous past conductors as Bruno Walter, Christian Thielemann and Lorin Maazel.

The afternoon’s program features pianist Behzod Abduraimov performing Tchaikovsky’s noble Piano Concerto No. 1, an instantaneous sensation with 19th century audiences and equally beloved today. Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, born from the political turmoil of the suppressive Stalinist regime, stands as a towering example of the composer’s creative genius.

Mendelssohn: Scherzo from Midsummer Night’s Dream

Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1  (Behzod Abduraimov, piano)

Shostakovich: Symphony No.5
